Thanks so much Scott!(...and Drew, for enlarging the copy). For me this is enough information to conclude that the Nitro Steel barrels on the Pigeon gun I examined most likely had replacement barrels if it was indeed made in 1895. I guess that all the references to Crown Steel's ability to handle nitro powders got translated by some over time as Nitro Steel.
Sorry to have pushed this so much, but I think it's important to get the facts straight if at all possible.
