Danny, 1901 would be correct for the year your hammer gun was made. The "F" designation means it was the lowest grade made, although at this time it was the only grade made unless you special ordered one. You can shoot modern shells in these guns and many of us here shoot them only after being judged by a gun smith that knows L.C. Smith that the gun is safe to shoot. Good luck and good shooting.
