WELCOME TO THE L.C. SMITH COLLECTORS ASSOCIATION FORUM.
Be courteous, RESTRICT YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS TO L.C. SMITH RELATED TOPICS, and you MUST USE YOUR ACTUAL FULL NAME. For clarity, please use appropriate punctuation with both upper and lower case for both your name and the text.
You will find answers to many of your questions by reviewing "Shotguns" (where the grades are shown) and "FAQ" (Frequently Asked Questions) on the Home Page. Please review the General Information FAQ "Is my shotgun safe to shoot?" before using your L.C. Smith or Hunter Arms Co. Fulton shotgun.
The serial number alone is not adequate to identify or date your Smith gun. A numeric grade stamp began to appear underneath the serial number with the introduction of the No. 00 in 1898, but may not be found on No. 2 and higher grade guns. When the grade designations and engraving patterns were changed in 1913, "Field" or a capital letter (I=Ideal, T=Trap, S=Specialty, etc.) were stamped on the action flats and barrel flats underneath the serial number; the grade was also marked on the top of the right barrel. Guns manufactured 1945-1950 will (usually) have a 'S' preceding the serial number.
Please request a Research Letter (Request Form is on the Home Page) to obtain the YEAR OF MANUFACTURE of your L.C. Smith.
DO NOT POST if you are seeking the VALUE of a L.C. Smith. Instead, visit the FAQ and read "How can I determine the value of my L.C. Smith?"
The Forum is not to be used as a venue for airing grievances with the LCSCA, gun clubs, gun dealers, or gunsmiths. "Testimonials" about work completed by gunsmiths are not accepted, and the Forum is not a place to advertise gunsmithing services. Feel free however to post seeking suggestions for repair and restoration services, but please post your email so members can communicate with you in private.
Posts announcing shoots are welcome, but should be restricted to events specifically providing opportunities for participants to use L.C. Smith shotguns. Please do not make posts promoting gun shows or auctions.
Posts not meeting the LCSCA approved guidelines are subject to modification or removal.
THE FORUM MAY NOT BE USED TO BUY OR SELL GUNS, ADVERTISE GUNS FOR SALE, OR TO POST LINKS TO GUNS FOR SALE.
Members of the LCSCA may list guns for sale on the Members Only Forum. L.C. Smith (only) parts (not frames) or barrels may be sought or sold on this Forum, and you should include your email if doing so.
