The mix or re-mix is the adjustment of the levels of the various instruments and vocals.
The mastering or re-mastering is an aural manipulation of the overall bass, midrange and treble tonalities. They can adjust the entire spectrum of sound. But mastering doesn't change the mix, it only enhances it.
We don't own our old masters, MCA does. They were probably lost in the Universal City fire a few years ago.
We do, however, own the masters of the re-recordings of our old songs including Incense and Tomorrow.

Three prong question..1-What exactly is the difference between a re-MIX and a re-MASTER?-Did SAC usually have a say in both?3-Have you ever tried to own your masters? Previous Message

Have you listened much to Zappa protege Larry "Wildman Fischer's debut "An Evening With" much over the years.Pure schizophrenic ramblings, but funny and strangely worthwhile.I know George was involved for a while. When was his last meeting? Previous Message
Well, yeah.
The Zapster remember, was a jazz musician first and he became heavily influenced by rock music. So it was a two way street.
His influence on rock was clear in bands like Brian Eno and The B52's and Devo. He was definitely more musically proficient than the legendary artists you mentioned but he was not as accessible. Those people reached a huge audience and were just as creative but in a different lane. I don't like comparing artistry too much. It's so subjective.
FZ is more of a musicians musician than the Beatles, Dylan or The Beach Boys. He's also has more of a male dominated audience.
But, I know what you mean.
