glad I got this right, Matze - I wasn't sure! I think we are lucky in the UK that foreign language films are usually sub-titled rather than dubbed, but we do of course have actors pretending to speak English with a foreign accent...and like you say, I think they go for the most obvious accent which is a bit cliched, but probably true. Like you I think JN's Amerigo was pretty good, but not the total stereotype Italian accent - probably because in most dramas Italian characters are often poor immigrants, or chefs or even criminals...whereas his character was an educated aristocrat! It had to be a bit different...I liked it anyway!!
