    Oh yes, Jules, that has struck me too: the tender caregiving aunt Emma and uncle Knightley bestowe on their little nephews and nieces - to show open affection to children, a thing rather unusual at that time, I think!

    The Knightleys * were certainly ahead of the times! And Thomas More comes to my mind, he also was a proponent of equal rights and a tender father, as far as we know.
