TBH I reckon there are probably only about 3 or 4 decent strikers outside the top 4 or 5 teams. Its fking tough to get a decent striker nowadays, there just isnt as many as there used to be.

Saying that though we still seem to have had the worst strikers in the league for years now.

Come on now, we all know there's better out there than what we've got in both the striker and the full back departments, we just don't have/want to spend the money needed to get them.

If there isn't an available striker in the whole world demonstrably better than Beto and Barry then we might as well all give up now.

It's a bullshit excuse, they are saying they won't pay for players who are no better than we already have then go and pay for Beto and Barry, letting DCL leave? He's better than both of them. They should just come out and say 'we can't find anyone better at the moment because our scouting network is inept or hamstrung by budget constraints', you know, be honest.

The evidence does not show DCL to be better than either of them. He’s got one goal more than Barry and one less than Beto. He’s exactly the same.

The Barry signing looks a poor one on the basis of how he has been performing. But he needs time to adapt to a new league. I’ve got more issues with the full back areas that have been hugely neglected for years now

DCL's all round game is better, he can score goals. He was either injured or malingering for vast parts of the last few seasons, but I saw enough to put him above them. Barry needs more games though I reckon, he seems to have something about him, sitting on the bench won't improve him. There will be strikers out there better than Beto though.

That's why I don't think Moyes has had anything to do with most of our summer signings. As much as I can't stand the dire one, he's had a fair bit of success over the years picking a bargain so to bit involve him in transfers looks even more stupid.

We do it every season, spend money in areas we dont need or buy more than one player for a particular position and then criminally neglect an area that ends up biting us on the arse for the whole season.

The money we have wasted on 'safe' striker choices from foreign leagues in the years since Lukaku is ridiculous though.

I cant think of any position where we have an over abundance in the squad at all, where are you on about?

Its all well and good saying we should have signed a striker but we only had so much money and to get a good, experienced prem league striker would have cost an absolute fortune, because it does.

Who would we have got?

And its all well and good saying we spent x on a winger and a full back, but not one person disputed the fact that we needed strengthening in those positions in the summer, in particular the right wing had people clutching their pearls and saying "Just pay what it takes to sign Dibbling" when it looked like we had bids turned down and it wasn't happening.
Maybe those two are not ready yet but if we waited till they were we just wouldn't have got them, they would go to Chelsea or City or something, the only way we can get top players is to get them before they hit their prime because if we wait till they do they wont come to Everton.

Its going to take more than 1 window to sort this squad out, probably more than 2 as well.

Needs to be reevaluation re types of signings we make.
All well and good making a statement by signing dibling types for the future but it’s at odds with what is plainly needed for the here and now.

He was obviously bought to be our main striker. He scored double figures in La Liga last season.

I saw an interview with Moyes the day he was signed, and he said Barry wasn't ready for the PL just yet, even allowing for his La Liga form.

when I saw him in the euros I thought he looked awkward but a handful to play against. he looks incredibly easy to play against now, he also doesn’t remotely play to his size. he might as well be 5’9.
