That’s pretty much as I saw it. After 10 minutes I was thinking, I hope we can get to half time at 0-0 then hopefully they can sort themselves out. Sadly, not. Personally, I think having Tim alongside Gana Gueye just doesn’t work. Neither can pass well enough and I think Tim gets caught out of position too often. Armstrong is a much better bet in that position. He is far more disciplined. Beto was poor last night but if our only tactic is to hump the ball up to a lone striker surrounded by opposition players then you put peak Bob Latchford up there and it won’t make any difference. One final point: our speed of passing is so slow. When Grealish came on, his first pass was pinged along the deck in sharp contrast to all the others who pass on the deck and players have to stand and wait for years to receive it.

Agree re how deliberately we seemed to mis-use Ndiaye (he was back in our own box after the pen at one stage) and how predictable it was that when we played with the tiniest bit of urgency we looked better.

We wont set up like that all the time though will we.

We will if we dont sort out the same glaring weaknesses that we've had since last May - and were known about long before that. Several seasons ago if we're honest. It's just not good enough.

But its literally one game ago we played really well at Newcastle. Only Young and Harrison from that XI have actually left.

We've got a couple of key injuries that have had a big impact on the balance of the team, never mind the squad.

We've looked miles off it all pre-season, let's be completely honest about it. Last night just looked the same. Nowhere near ready to start the season. I swear to God, if we don't sort a proper right back and right-winger this week, I'm gonna have a coronary. I'm sick to the back teeth of it.

I didn’t even mind the first half too much, once you wade that “storm” we should have made more effort to score a goal. That’s what gets me, he just carried on happy for a 0-0.

Aye agree with that. Think we'll improve pretty quickly like but as a standalone game it was pathetic.

Yeah positive signs for Grealish. He should make a huge difference and really help Ndiaye. We need to have a solid home form this season and get the crowd on side so he needs to be way more positive on Sunday. And as that match report rightly says, we have the players to do it.

We can’t play that midfield two ever again though. It was horrible.
