Firctly 8 weeks ago my mum was rushed in for an emergency bowel (cancer) operation wher they removed her bowel..She suffered a stroke during the op and was found after a biopsy to have primary Ovarian cancer ...She has been treated like a queen while she has been in hospital (still there) and I cant thank the nurses , doctors, porters,cleaners admin staff and everyone else who has been there for her ..All colours all creeds and nationalities and all with a smile on their face ..

Secondly i've had an abscess in my mouth the last few days which swelled up to golf ball size this morning ..

My old dentist had closed down and no one else would take me as an emergency appointment ...I rang the NHS helpline who got me an appointmnet this morning at a local dentists where they promptly whipped a tooth out and sorted the abcess out ..all for Twenty seven of your great british pounds..

It truly is remarkable our NHS and its something we should all be very very proiud of ..

SPOT ON and hope your mum is recovering well.

The amount of mouth breathers who would happily sign the NHS away to be swallowed up by US hedge funds and Pharma/health care industry is staggering.

Maybe if we put some realistic resources into it, and removed the profitable parts from private health providers, we'd have something truly incredible all the time.

Makes me fewm those who argue with a straight face that the cost of housing etc immigrants is money that could be better spent on the NHS
Hence their vote goes towards Reform who are never directing that money to the NHS and would rather strangle it to justify selloff

It can be difficult getting an appointment with doctors and hospitals sometimes, but when you do get in, the care you get from doctors and nurses is amazing. They're worth their weight in gold.

Brilliant to hear about the 2 positive experiences yu had though. I'm a massive fan of the NHS and it restores my faith after what my mother in law went through in her last few weeks in Fazakerley (absolutely nothing to do with the staff, who were brilliant).

Re the tooth, you've touched very lucky there. I got an abscess and infection about 4 months ago on a wisdom tooth that hasn't fully come through and phoned my dentist first thing to be told there was not even an emergency appointment.

I phoned that national helpline thing (0161 number), and was told because i had a dentist, and because it was not out of hours, they couldn't do anything.

I was in agony so ended up going to a walk in centre, who said they couldn't do anything and basically just fucked me off.

There was a dentist next door so I just popped in desperate and luckily luckily receptionist was sound and looked and said it was an infection and although they couldn't do anything I needed to phone or go to my dentist and tell them they had a duty of care to see me.

Long story short I went in and got seen and was prescribed antibiotics to clear the infection and they gave me an appointment to come back for an xray, nearest available one was 4 months later haha. That was actually yesterday so I went, got x rays, dentist said I need it taken out and referred me to aintree to get it done, and the girl on reception then told me it will take about 2 years hahaha.

So you defo done well re the dental treatment.

Just reading that back and I sound like a crying c*nt over the dentist haha.

Didn't mean to come across like that. I'm sound about the wait, as apart from that infection it never gives me any grief, but fuck me, if I get any more of those infections I'll be getting the pliers out and doing a diy job.

I was charged £25 for the dentist to root around in my mouth for 90 seconds then send me off with a clean bill of oral health on Monday. Glad you got good VFM for your outlay.

First of all, sorry to hear about your mum Banj and hope she's okay and glad you got your abscess sorted.

I took my 84yr old mum to her GP on Tues morning for a routine injection and he came out to the car to tell me she needed to go to hospital as they were worried about her heart, cut a long story short they phoned the Consultant at the new Royal to give them a heads up, wrote a letter and we drove straight there, she was triaged, had an ECH and x-ray within the first hour followed by a second ECG later in the afternoon and was placed in a brand new ward on her own whilst this was going on. She was seen by a doctor plus trainee followed by the Consultant and was discharged at 6pm, the care was excellent and made a very stressful day a lot less stressful than it could have been.

My only gripe was I parked in the new car park and was there for just short of six hours and the robbing bastards charged me £16!

I’m retired now but it used to annoy me when the media said the NHS is broken etc

Yeah it’s saturated with bullshit job titles and Foundation Trust nonsense but at the cliff face it’s still very good
The beating heart is still very strong for people who deliver care as an MDT and also other essential non clinical jobs that keep the engine running
