Always thought that if Catterick had bought him or Ron Davies Everton would have won the league two seasons before they did.

Have to disagree there Pete. Royle had become our centre forward in those seasons ,and I wouldn't say either of the Davies's would have improved us enough to finish ahead of Man City in 67/8, or Leeds in 68/9. Both were great sides and worthy title winners that we finished a fair bit behind.

Ron Davies was a tremendous centre forward. He was top scorer in at least one season in the late 1960s, playing for a pretty average Southampton side. Man U offered what would have been a British record fee for him at some point too.
