Sardines for breakfast

I choose this option every now and again. Recently there seems to have been a dearth in relatively cheap tinned sardines in oil that I was used to buying, I assumed they were imported. This mornings offering was Cornish sardines in salt water, less sardine in the can, but a significant difference in flavour and smell. Somewhat dearer in price, but I will choose these from here on in.
Served on a slice of malted bloomer and Welsh butter, with black pepper and fresh lemon. 10/10.

Defo a big supply issue going on. Our dog has sardines in tomato sauce every day. Usually get them from Home Bargains (yes, that's what it says on the sign above the door), but they've not had any for weeks.

Very patchy elsewhere too. Tried yesterday, none in HB, Aldi or Tesco (some expensive John West ones there, but no own brand). Very strange.

Massive ones like you get in Portugal

I barbecued half of them last weekend.

Tesco Finest do a range of tinned fish that are superb. The chilli, lime and coriander sardines are great as are the tins of hot smoked mackerel.

Arf, I choose tinned sardines over tinned tuna, the mercury content is much higher in the latter. Eating these on a really hot day can see short arse me tipping six foot.

At least you have access to a fresh fish counter. No Morrisons near me & the fish counter at Tesco & Asda disappeared years ago.

Once treated myself to freshly smoked kippers from the smokehouse in Craster, Northumberland. We had them on the bbq, and it was like eating the sole of a fireman’s boot that had acupuncture needles threaded into it.
Absolutely not worth the effort involved in eating.

I used to have sardines in tomato, but haven’t had for a long time. I choose them in brine or sunflower oil, as our ginger cat Bally, named after Alan Ball, will eat these too, he wouldn’t touch sardines in tomato sauce. Maybe he doesn’t like anything red.

Our cat won't entertain the ones in tommy sauce, but will wolf the ones in brine.

I occasionally have the Marksies sardines or mackerel in tommy sauce, on thick buttered toast, for brekky.

Recently though, I've been having Aldi brussels pate and toast, plus Aldi luxury yogurts. Either yellow peach, Sicilian Lemon or Black cherry. Washed down with a glass of Aldi fresh orange juice (with bits) and a beautifully ripe banana and tangerine.
