Worst moment of my teaching career was with a stutterer when I was head of department at a very rough school in East Leeds.
Kid in my class had a stutter and we were having a bit of back and forth when he stuttered and, unthinking, I automatically said "Easy for you to say." "Fuck off, sir."
I apologised, took him outside and apologised profusely again.
"What about me telling you to fuck off? Am I going home (automatic punishment)?"
"I think we'll call that one fair enough, don't you?"
