Yes, a fondly recalled film of yore.
Always he'll be Howard Bannister for me, though.
I had unintentional sniggers during Talented Mr Ripley at the "Dickie? Dickie Greenleaf?" moment on the beach. All I could hear was the "Howard? Howard Bannister?" sketch in the airport in What's Up Doc? Exactly the same metre and delivery.
'What are you laughing at?'
'Oh nothing, you'd never get it anyway.'
* I had a platonic girlfriend (not now, no) for a while in the 80s who confessed to modelling her whole outward persona on Streisand in What's Up Doc? It was the maddest period of my life and I genuinely felt like I was her Howard Bannister muse. She ended up being a host on Come Dine With Me, as well as being a barrister. I met her one miserable Sunday afternoon in town and she was just conversationally aots like nothing I'd ever experienced. Said she'd been 'speeding in the Harrington' all afternoon. I just thought she meant gin or something. Naive beyond belief then.
