It's officially called recusal - the bar for recusal is relatively high and it's not just any potential for it. I personally don't think that having accepted instructions to act for Leeds 16 years ago would meet the threshold. As I say you'd struggle to find someone experienced who has not accepted instructions from a football club or the FA/EPL at some point, and that club would potentially have 'beef' with us somewhere along the line. Barristers (as he then was) represent the client on the client's instructions, putting their best case forward. Subject to the case/legal points not being hopeless (and some other minor things) they are actually obliged to act when instructed.
