Even the ultra capitalist Yanks knew that competition was a key element in making the NFL successful, but their cartel is all 32 teams. The EPL cartel is 6, with a host of clubs that'll say yes to anything they say, just to maintain the league. I hope someone breaks it, as finishing 5th and occasionally winning a league cup shouldn't be the limits for all other 14 teams.
