I really don't know if they are interchangeable. My feeling is that Timothea must derive from Timothy, and Thomasin from Thomas. But I'm no expert.
There's always potential for mis-hearing if giving information verbally, and we have no way of knowing who gave the information to the 1841 enumerator.
