There is detail on national archives about a Christopher Shapland, widow is Wilmot, he died 1804, so could be the grandfather of Christopher born 1700, tradition to name a child after grandparent, therefore father of John Shapland?. Is there a dughter of John and Elizabeth named Wilmot?
Some of the early wills ones are only available at devon heritage centre.
