It's unlikely that the couple were married before Civil Registration was brought in (1837), so there should be an entry on the GRO Index irrespective of religious (Christian) denomination.
There's every possibility that they never married.
I have a few couples for whom that was the case. In one instance, the 'wife' delayed registration of the first child for 6 months after his birth (the 'husband's' surname was used for all their children). And when the 'wife' died, the 'husband' did remarry. I often wonder why marry one, and not the other.
