WLIT-FM 93.9 Starts Christmas Music on November 1st

WLIT-FM 93.9 has announced non-stop Christmas music will begin playing this year on Friday, November 1st @ 3:00 pm.

Bah Humbug!

I'd wait another 3 weeks...Or when it snows outside 93.9 Lite FM's downtown studios before they flip the switch to holiday music.

I remember one year that's how WLIT started its annual holiday music format. I was reading one of the executives saw a little snow falling outside the window of the station's 2 Prudential Plaza studios.

I understand the appeal, but it's too soon to start 24/7 holiday music. I'd wait until Thanksgiving weekend before making the switch.

I agree with you. But it makes no financial sense. It is the thing that saves the station and iHeart itself. They will ride the top for nearly 2 months due to this music and it trickles for months afterward, retaining a lot of the listeners that tuned it.

Also you don't want to give another station a chance to beat you to the punch. A station like 100.3 ( at one time) might have been tempted to try it. Besides, WLIT isn't the only one in the nation getting a head start on the Holiday music format.

I feel like Hubbard should go Chriatmas with 100.3, and rethink WTBC while they play the Christmas tunes. The argument for 100.3 being a flanker for 101.9 WTMX doesn't hold up for me these days, as The Mix seems to have lost a lot of its former luster.

Hubbard is covering a format no one else is. What do they go to another format already covered and the share of the pie is nearly eaten? Another White based Classic Hits like LS and DRV? Another Hip Hop station? Another version of CHR? I believe it is less and less relevant to flank 101.9 anymore. As time goes by, there is less of a pool of listeners which are P1. It has begun. Best path is to stay put on WTBC and ride it out.

Furthermore, the whole B96, KISS, MIX at some point has to break. Someone has to change formats or tweak hard to fill a niche of CHR. There are not enough young listeners to support all these stations, the ears are gone. Also, look at the HOT100 and airplay lists. There is limited new product. Songs are lingering for 1+ years. Then again, flip to what? Go back to the WTBC discussion. 🤷🏻‍♂️
