WDRV-FM/97.1 has risen to the top spot in the 6+ survey. WLIT-FM 93.9 took a slight dip, but fear not, all-Christmas music will steamroll over most Chicago music stations.
Input from Jeremy and WYTZZ95FM requested on the following please.
WKSC-FM/103.5 rises 2.5 to 3.0 WBBM-FM/96.3 drops 2.0 to 1.6 Both stations are CHR formatted. I would surmise, both are essentially playing the same music. Is this simply a "bad" survey for B96?
Finally, WCHI-FM/95.5 is beginning to show a little sign of life but it won't last very long.
WLIT is still #1 in 25-54, plus Christmas is coming as you said, so that's not really a big deal.
In 103.5's case, strong showing. More people tuned in.
96.3 is no longer playing the same music as 103.5. I no longer consider it a CHR station. Some of it, mostly the biggest hits get played, but most of the music they play is now golds from the 90s and 2000s that can be heard on 104.3 and 100.3. People might have enjoyed it for awhile, but it might have got stale over time.
95.5 just increased a tad in the same way 101.1 decreased a tad. Maybe some people didn't like what 101.1 has been playing lately so they switched for awhile. Both share an audience. I personally don't like hearing 80s Rock with my 90s Alternative but if 101.1 is not doing something right, some people are going to switch over to 95.5. 101.1 has been playing some harder edged music and using the term "Modern Rock" lately. This is with the new PD. It's really nothing too extreme or even out of line, but it didn't have a good recent track record before and I doubt it will again.
The station sounds horrible, the jocks are not live and the audio levels make it evident.
Classic hits is the rage. Jams is still showing signs of life. The normal path is to do an 80/90s dance pop classic hits. You will share your audience with 104.3 so they do not leave your company. You will go after iHeart V103, WLIT and KISS to a lesser degree plus WLS-FM which they would just go even more rock based trying to be like the Drive.
This is a pipe dream because they will never pay to bring top notch air staff whether it is the old crew or a new one. Formats like that have to be live and not just live but "Alive" as they were back in the day.
Advertising office will keep selling this with a 1.0 share if their target demos are ok, using the B96 heritage factor. "B96 has been on the air for 41 years in Chicago. Everyone knows and tunes in". 💲💲💲
Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't B96's best ratings over the years been when they were dance-intensive?
While we are at it, would it work to do a classic dance pop hits (80s, 90s) and 50/50 mix it with current dance to keep it fresh and just stand out from all stations?
Revolution Miami sorta does this, heavier on currents and small signals.
Anything but back product top 40 and old hip-hop. SO much of that on that radio now. Overplayed
