AM band, handing in licenses, duplexing signals, HD dropping like flies, now......

Ford recently disclosed that it would not include AM radio in the 2024 Mustang, which is a conventional vehicle powered by an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), and not an EV, which is known to cause interference with AM radio reception.

It now seems Ford is looking to phase out AM radio options in “most new and updated models.” The company earlier said it would not include AM in its 2023 F-150 Lightning EV trucks, which resulted in a response from Pete Gaynor, the former Acting Secretary of Homeland Security and administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

I have had Mustangs since 2008.
AM STILL makes up 20% of audience.
AM in the Dakotas, Prairies of AB SK etc is still predominant due to EXCELLENT ground conductivity!

I WILL WRITE my Ford DEALER to see if this is an OPTION. FORD is not the only game in town.

My guess, is the 37 yr old engineers did this.
All the "old folks" were tossed out years ago with buy outs, etc.

As a lifelong Lincoln/Ford family owner, and Electrical RF Engineer, I find Ford’s interference claim dubious at best and more likely nefarious. Im currently shopping for other makes.

John, they are trying to kill off the AM band. Seriously, literally no one under 40 listens to it and FM is not far behind. SW is dead except in 3rd world countries.

You are 199% correct, AM is the only lifeline in this country because not everywhere is FM feasible and even more true, not everywhere in the US has high speed broadband.

For Ford, this is deleting a few parts and saving some dollars per car x volume. It is Capitalism. The good and bad of it.

Wrote TWO Ford dealers last FRIDAY.
DEALER ONE NEVER ANSWERED.

Dealer TWO, called in 4 minutes, NEVER ANSWERING question on "2024 Mustang" but, "C'mon in, we're dealing" and garbled talk, THEN a TEXT 4 minutes later. This IDIOT obviously never read nor properly answered my question.

THUS, # is BLOCKED and I hit "STOP" to STOP texts.

Again, there are other cars than FORD. EXPENSIVE as vehicles are, an AM radio in addition to their apps to brighten headlights, check rear seats, heat steering wheel, seats isn't that much to ask.

The vast majority of today's customers of Ford or any automotive brand couldn't care less about AM.That may be a bit sad in a nostalgic way for some of us, but that's the reality in 2023.
