CBS, which was a partner in the CW with Warner Bros. Discovery, dropped 8 of its affiliates last September in San Francisco, Sacramento, Seattle, Atlanta, Tampa, Detroit, Pittsburgh & Philadelphia.
Nexstar, parent company of WGN 9, 720 AM WGN Radio and NewsNation (Formerly WGN America), acquired a 75% stake in the CW last May. There's been speculation that WGN & the CW might be full time partners again as a result.
The fact that WGN airs CW Sports' coverage of the controversial LIV Golf Tour, as well as ACC Football & Basketball broadcasts, might be a sign of things to come.
The CW raised some eyebrows again last July when they acquired the broadcast rights to the NASCAR Xfinity Series from FOX & NBC respectively. FOX & NBC continue to air NASCAR Cup Series races, while FS1 airs the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
CW's new NASCAR Xfinity Series contract takes effect next February.
