Cases in point...The Phoenix Suns, Arizona Coyotes & Arizona Diamondbacks all bolted Bally Sports Arizona last year. The Diamondbacks signed a deal with MLB Advanced Media, similar to what the San Diego Padres did when they bolted Bally Sports San Diego last summer due to missing a rights' payment.
The Padres, Diamondbacks & Colorado Rockies all have such deals with MLB this season. The Rockies lost their broadcast partner in AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain after last season, but decided not to sign on with Altitude TV, the RSN that carries the NBA Champion Denver Nuggets & Colorado Avalanche due to a lengthy battle with Xfinity over rights' fees.
That leads me to the Cubs. Once again this season, most Cubs' games will air on Marquee Sports Network. I said most because CW 26, which previously aired WGN 9-produced Cubs, White Sox & Bulls' games about 15 years ago, will simulcast an upcoming broadcast.
Marquee will have the Cubs/Brewers' Spring Training game from Phoenix on Tuesday, March 12 @ 8P (CT). The Sun-Times' Jeff Agrest says that CW 26 will simulcast this game...Possibly to get an untapped audience.
Whether it leads to CW 26 getting into the game again airing Chicago sports teams over the air remains to be seen.
