The irony is, WBMX-FM at the time was rolling jingles and were a very hip Urban/CHR, with a CHR clock in place (spinning the top hits often). At the time when B96 was presenting themselves in the opposite direction.

Thanks to Steve West awesome website, check out the WBMX air check below. Note, majority of songs were in Chicago top40 rotation at the time, including Simply Red, Holding back the Years. @ 21:35 is a top hour jingle, something majority of Urban stations did not have in the 80s.

One can only wonder what would have happened if WBMX never changed to V103 and B96 had direct competition.
