The neighboring town of Tavares has labeled itself America's Sea Plane City, for no particular reason other than they decided to do so for publicity & tourism sake, not because there was any high rate of actual seaplane activity already present. They did build a special area in their downtown park on Lake Dora for seaplanes to get out of the water and park on land, and there is even a sea plane air tour business there too, but this was all pretty much fabricated. However, today when I was there visiting with my younger sister, a couple of cool small seaplanes did fly in, land on the lake, and then came up the big ramp into the plane parking area for a visit. Below is a pic of one of them as the people were climbing out after parking. This particular plane is a SeaRey, which has a factory in the area.
