DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LIBERTY SHIP S.S. SIDNEY S. SHORT AFTER 1946.

SS SIDNEY H. SHORT was built by Kaiser Permanente Metals Corp., Richmond No. 2 Yard, Richmond, California, in just 26 days in February-March 1944. She subsequently operated in the Pacific, coming under bombing and strafing attacks and was credited with the destruction of at least two Japanese airplanes. Her Armed Guard crew was awarded battle stars in the invasion of Leyte (October-November 1944) and the assault and occupation of Okinawa (May 1945).

The only postwar information I can find is that she was scrapped in 1973 in New Orleans. This suggests she went into the reserve fleet ("mothballed") immediately after World War II and probably never sailed again.

Sidney H. Short (1858-1902) was an electrical engineer, educator, and inventor of many items for arc lighting and electrical traction systems.

my thanks to ron carlson for this info. i boarded this ship in san pedro, cal in nov 1945 and left ship in galveston, tx in feb 1946 have wondered since whart hapened to her
