As for coming home after the war, I was doing a minority enlistment (age 17 to 21) and therefor wasn't discharged until 1946. Veterans and their problems were pretty much old hat by then, and my return was a very minor matter. Having grown up in the Navy, I found civilian life a puzzle I was ill equipped to deal with, and decided the best place to get reoriented was on a university campus. Thank God for the GI Bill.
