I also have the Combrig HMS Lion - yes the detail is sparse (what an understatement!). In addition to that the hull sheer is way too high (it's a common problem with most Combrig kits.) So, we as modelers are a bit out of luck if we want a truly accurate HMS Lion.

You are setting yourself up for hours and hours of extra work. The ship did not have a pronounced "step" on the hull side for armor plate. The sides were flush. The blast screens fore and aft of Q turret (center) are approximately four feet thick---way overdone. Compared to the accurate, but sparsely detailed Combrig 1:700 scale Lion, it is a monstrosity. I would return it.
