That he wanted regime change is very clear from his remarks upon the death of Khamenei when he indicated that this was a good time for Iranians to rise up and remove the government. Khamenei and the leadership were openly targeted.
But, these things are not clear to you because you don't want them to be. It is plain enough to others.
Yes, Iran can restart their nuclear program. "Restart" is the operable word. If their facilities and leading scientists are gone, the effort will be greater, and it will take longer. That is that much more time that Iran is not a nuclear menace to the region. And future generations and leaders can monitor and decide what to do about it in the future. They might get struck again. And Israel is another player.
Yes, control of Iranian oil would also be a valid objective. If we controlled their oil, it would "complicate" China's energy picture. Another strategic goal.
People complain there is no exit strategy. What could be better than being able to exit whenever you decide to? I'd say that's a fine exit strategy.
He has stated he feels his objectives to be worth the costs. You disagree, and would not be alone. Nothing wrong with that.

But in this war, it is not even clear what the goal of Trump was.
Trump claimed that the Iranian nuclear program was already destroyed in the Twelve-Day War in 2025. No war can prevent the nuclear program to re-start in the future.
A regime change is unlikely (and I think it was unlikely the goal). Maybe, Trump's attack on Venezuela explains the war the best. There, he claimed the war to be about drugs. Then about regime change. But in the end, he simply got part of the Venezuelan oil. As a believer in the future of fossil fuels, Trump probably thought that by killing some Iranian leaders, he would get some the Iranian oil.
But without really knowing the goal, it is easy to claim to have reached them and claim victory in that war...
The economic and political costs will be still there.
