A law got passed that certain large online businesses (biggest example--and the biggest target of the law--was ebay) had to start collecting all state taxes regardless of which state the item was physically bought in. I'm in Massachusetts. If I ordered an item from Tennessee, that Tennessee business had to collect Massachusetts state sales tax from me, and remit it to the state on a regular schedule, if it "qualified" to do so. This only applies to retailers of a certain size/volume which is all spelled out in the law. Shapeways was big enough. Every order, they added my state's sales tax as soon as I put in where I was from, though they were based in New York. 3D-Wild isn't required to under this law. They only charged shipping. "Too small" business volume-wise, and they're in Pennsylvania. If they'd been in Massachusetts, their software would have hit me with the state's tax as soon as I identified as a resident. That part has not changed. Order from an in-state company, you pay state taxes. Previous Message
The times DFNM offered their kits in PA-12, were already the bad, expensive and low quality period - also the period, in which DFNM released much fewer kits. Before, DFNM offered their models in cheaper and better quality versions.
Compared to today's resin printers, the quality was significantly lower. In that sense, I do not miss Shapeways either.
In most cases, designers offer their kits now cheaper than earlier at Shapeways. DFNM/3D Wild is the exception. For the prices, 3D Wild is asking for, I would expect an exceptional, high quality kit. I did not claim that Shapeways printed such kits. I am talking about prices for typical 1/700 printed and cast resin kits - and the quality vs. price what I see there.
E.g. as comparison, Seed Hobby's heavy cruiser Canarias - larger than those frigates, mostly 3D printed, but includes also PE, instructions etc. 71.6 € including tax (plus 6-7 € shipping in Germany).
Could you explain why you have paid taxes on (US-produced) products at Shapeways, but not at 3D Wild? The situation should be identical.
