I should have added, IF the same practice was used on Hood, that definitely COULD have been a contributing factor. Previous Message
Battle cruiser losses at Jutland occurred because of the practice of the magazine crews leaving the blast doors open for more rapid transfer of shells and propellent to the elevators. Hood had stocks of 5" (?) AA stacked down the corridors. A direct hit on the magazine was not necessary, as a hit anywhere else on that deck would have detonated the AA ammo and caused a sympathetic explosion all the way back to the main magazine...BOOM!! I can't believe I never saw anything about this.
