As in, how many barrels?
I'm trying to high-level compare US and RN tankers in WWII and ONI 222 US Naval Vessels lists Cimarron tankers at a capacity of 147,150 barrels. Light Googling indicates oil weight varies by composition, between 7 and 8 pounds per gallon (about a 14% difference), and a long ton is 2,240 pounds. So, we wind up at a total of between 77,600 to 88,685 barrels if I'm doing the math right, and I was hoping for something more firm for comparison.
Try MILTARY WIKI . I put in Dale class oilers
and they were built in 3 groups . The long ton capacity is converted to tons for the 1st group
11,837 tons and the 2nd group is 12,193 tons . There's no listing for 3rd group of dale class oilers . HTH
I mean, it's wikipedia so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that an article on oilers there doesn't actually list the capacity in volume.....
Does anyone know of a source that lists the capacity of the ships of this class in a better sense than "11,650 long tons"?
