last fall it started running really bad, coughing etc. so I disconnected the lead off the mixture control solenoid and it ran fine.
just noticed that I'm only get about 20-23 mpg. so I don't want to drive it anymore like this. I pulled solenoid off, took it apart completely and cleaned it up, orifice was dirty. put it back together and car runs really rough! no pick up, hesitates. adjusted end of solenoid several times, part that screws on last with the screwdriver slot built into it. my manual said not to adjust this is it's preset at factory but since I had disassembled it anyway I already had messed that setting up. tried it several diff ways, still no luck. unconnected it again and it runs fine, plenty of pickup etc. but I don't want to drive it like this anymore as it can't be good for the engine to run like this only getting 20 mpg.
any suggestions before I slap a non electronic carb on it (which I have) and a non computer controlled distributer (which I have) and simply do away with the computer altogether. I have done this twice before on previous chevettes. would really like to keep this one electronic if I can.
thanks
pete
