>> I'm pretty sure they do, but I still don't ride them very much. They probably don't wheelie anymore, or else you can't control it. On the Wii, once I got pretty good, the game sort of became Super Funky Kong Bike/Motorcycle. The Wii U game must be more "balanced" to where I want to drive the karts instead.
I'm definitely confused by the traction and handling ratings. I probably like low traction, because I'm used to drifting the turns. Whenever the handling or the traction are pretty high, I end up sliding into the grass or going off a ledge. There was a benefit, though, where it became easier to slide onto some shortcut ramps.
>> As far as I can tell, lower traction makes you slide in the opposite direction of your lean/turn. I'm used to steering to "correct" that and stay on course. Maybe, with the bikes, they're NOT skidding away from the turn, so I wouldn't need to correct? I believe you have to activate the boost by fighting against the momentum of the skid, so it would be harder to boost on a bike that's not fighting you?
Oh, yeah! Speaking of the stopwatch, WHERE IS IT during Grand Prix mode?
>> Well, now that I've played as the GamePad, I realized there's STILL no timer in Grand Prix mode! It's probably more important to the Time Trials than to a competitive race where items can affect your lap times. That's just a weird missing "feature."
Online Impressions: Maybe I was ready after more than 25 hours of experience in this game (who knows how many hundreds of hours in the Wii version). My ranking mostly increased in each race. I'm up by 243 points overall, but I don't think I've raced against too many people with a rating above 2,000. Now, I have a hard time understanding my Stats (the - button from the main menu). In the Wii game, I believe it counted a "win" for every person who finished lower than you in the standings, but you lost against the people who finished before you. My stats are saying 29 wins somehow (assuming that refers to online competition, and not something like racing a Time Trial ghost). Then, I have 17 losses. I don't think I raced 46 times, or finished in first place 29 times. Most races included at least 10 players, so if I raced more than five or six times, then I faced more than 46 drivers. All I can figure is that maybe, if I raced against 46 unique people, and I finished with a better record than 29 of them, but lost compared to 17 of them, that stat would sound meaningful? I didn't keep track of every result, but I was usually finishing in the top four (7 or 8 wins per race?) or at least in the top half of the total number of racers.
There's just A LOT to this game (or else many of the vehicles are like "alternate skins" with similar stats). I haven't driven as every character yet (should that be a goal?). I haven't tried to set a low time on every track yet. I haven't competed against Rick! That was kind of my other question. I guess you can create your own room or "lobby," but if your friends aren't online at the same time, then you'd be sitting there waiting to race. I like how you can create your own rules, but I couldn't tell how long it might take for someone else to join that room. In the Wii game, my favorite setting was to just use shells and bananas. On Wii U, I think you can say shells only or bananas only (not in combination). Bob-ombs only sounds pointless. I guess the other observation was how you can't pick your own course at all in online matches (different from the Wii game). The game will suggest three courses for you (which rarely or never repeat in consecutive matches), and if you don't like them, you can say random instead. I've even seen it where about eight people pick a course, but the "lottery" lands on a course that only one or two people wanted.
