No clue. I haven't got one and with the disappointment I feel in the console, I sure won't be putting much money into it. :-(
: I kind of miss Miiverse on the Wii U home
: screen. It upset me how, in the last few
: months, I was reporting stuff like
: hand-drawn pornography. Who wants to see
: that in their games? The last night that it
: was online, people were just unhinged,
: saying "Ban me!," or drawing
: swastikas and other nonsense.
I hadn't heard about all of that but, yeah, that's definitely not cool. I guess knowing Miiverse was going away what would it matter if you got banned from it a month or two before it ended? :-(
: You know what's crazy? I'm still waiting to
: own my first smartphone.
I've not ever had one, either. I just don't have a need for it. Oh, sure, it'd be a nice convenience of sorts but generally if I'm not home I'm at work or somewhere that I likely wouldn't answer it, anyway. Plus, it'd cost more than my current home phone. It's called Ooma (I'll leave you to look it up if you want) and it's basically a free service (internet based phone) aside from the 911 fees or whatever. It amounts to $4-$5 a month.
: It's hard for me to remember the last
: "Animal Crossing" game. What was
: the "Mario Party" rip-off with
: amiibo? Then something about being a home
: designer?
You're basically right on both counts. I never played or saw much on the "home designer" one and I think it was on 3DS. As for the other, it's Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival and I own it. It's fun in a low-key kind of way. Yeah, it's set up in a board game format but you can't really compare it to Mario Party as it doesn't have mini-games. There are various things that can happen as you play and each game you get to pick which month you want to play which determines events and stuff that could happen as you play.
I have some videos of it on my YouTube channel. Just search "Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival" on my channel and you can find them. :-)
: Supposedly, the new Nintendo president
: thinks they can earn over $900,000,000 per
: year from mobile games. As I mentioned, I
: don't have any way to play them, but it
: seems like there's already a bunch of
: competition. Then, I've just heard bits of
: pieces of the model for how they sell the
: games. It sounds like, instead of paying up
: front, some would be "free to
: start," but a big part of the game
: would basically be extra paid
: "DLC." Or, there's something
: called microtransactions and "loot
: boxes." The loot box idea sounds the
: worst from a competitive point of view. You
: could have somebody playing for free who
: puts in a lot of time for random unlocks of
: new characters and weapons. Then, they
: wouldn't stand a chance against someone who
: paid for the high quality loot boxes with
: the more powerful characters and items.
: Nintendo would probably appreciate the
: "loot box" player more, though,
: because they spent money on the best
: upgrades.
I'm not a fan of a game with too many micro-transactions let alone the loot box thing but I much prefer to just buy a game with everything it needs and then if optional DLC comes out, that's fine. But it's when either when you NEED to buy DLC or the game is too "bare bones" without it is when it feels more like a bit of a scam of sorts... get someone engaged in the game then they almost HAVE to buy, buy, buy stuff.
: Also, what's up wiith Labo? That seems like
: something only Nintendo would do, but the
: reviews made it sound like the software is
: kind of limited (building the cardboard
: might still be fun).
Honestly, while maybe young kids might see the appeal of the whole Labo thing, I feel like, "Really???" It just doesn't come off as appealing to me at all. Heck, if your kids aren't careful or responsible how long will cardboard accessories last? I mean even well made controllers can take abuse from kids to make them stop working. And waht about when you're building the accessory? What if you screw up in the process and tear/cut a piece your shouldn't have? While the technology of the Joycons being used in the accessories is impressive, I just don't think much of the concept in practice.
