:
: From the Switch's disappointment (things
: like no backwards compatibility,
: uncomfortable controllers, lack of games
: that interest me) to Miiverse closing to the
: Virtual Console closing, etc it just feels
: like Nintendo lost sight of what made them
: great and unique.
Is the Switch Pro controller comfortable? I'm not even sure if you have one. I think I heard Nintendo employees saying it took over the #1 spot for them (bumping the GameCube controller to #2). To me, the buttons look freakishly big (maybe smaller than N64's A and B, though). Then, the Switch Joy con buttons look like a 3DS or something (even smaller than a Game Boy Advance?).
I kind of miss Miiverse on the Wii U home screen. It upset me how, in the last few months, I was reporting stuff like hand-drawn pornography. Who wants to see that in their games? The last night that it was online, people were just unhinged, saying "Ban me!," or drawing swastikas and other nonsense.
: Oh, and I was particularly miffed when last
: year I heard of a new Animal Crossing game
: but instead of it being a Switch game it was
: for mobile phones!? WTF!? We didn't even
: get an Animal Crossing game on Wii U and it
: was time for a new one. Instead of
: supporting their own console and helping to
: "move consoles" with it, they went
: to mobile. What a shame. :-(
You know what's crazy? I'm still waiting to own my first smartphone. At this point, I don't know if it would be Apple or Android (I don't like how Google "spies" on you). Plus, I've wanted the Sony handsets (Xperia, I think they're called), but the American carriers who own all the mobile networks don't really advertise them. I think you have to buy an unlocked international version and then add a SIM card for whatever service provider you choose.
It's hard for me to remember the last "Animal Crossing" game. What was the "Mario Party" rip-off with amiibo? Then something about being a home designer? I could be wrong, but I think people talk about those games selling the best on portables (DS and 3DS) because of how it follows the internal clock (plus the "Street Pass" feature? - I don't even know how that worked). Switch is also a portable, though.
Supposedly, the new Nintendo president thinks they can earn over $900,000,000 per year from mobile games. As I mentioned, I don't have any way to play them, but it seems like there's already a bunch of competition. Then, I've just heard bits of pieces of the model for how they sell the games. It sounds like, instead of paying up front, some would be "free to start," but a big part of the game would basically be extra paid "DLC." Or, there's something called microtransactions and "loot boxes." The loot box idea sounds the worst from a competitive point of view. You could have somebody playing for free who puts in a lot of time for random unlocks of new characters and weapons. Then, they wouldn't stand a chance against someone who paid for the high quality loot boxes with the more powerful characters and items. Nintendo would probably appreciate the "loot box" player more, though, because they spent money on the best upgrades.
So, I don't know. Nintendo seems to have the monopoly on portable gaming systems for young kids. It's like they gave up on trying to match the graphics of XBox and PlayStation. Now, they might want to carve out some space in mobile games, but is that "too little, too late"?
Also, what's up wiith Labo? That seems like something only Nintendo would do, but the reviews made it sound like the software is kind of limited (building the cardboard might still be fun).
