Second, on my Wii U, I see the Miiverse icon pulsing, but I haven't really checked that recently. I wondered if it was a friend request. I haven't sent a request to Rick yet, since I was waiting for a "cool" date on the calendar. Possibly, the next cool date is April 10, which would be the 100th day of 2017 (nice, round number). One hundred can't be evenly divided by numbers like 6 or 13 ("unlucky"?). That should also be during the 15th week of the year, which sounds kind of safe. I'm not really sure what the friend requests let you do in Miiverse, or if you have to add someone to the main "Friend List" on the Wii U home screen first? How do you know that the person is online, or playing a game that you might have in your library? The main multiplayer online games that I have are probably "Super Smash Brothers for Wii U" and "Mario Kart 8." We didn't even get to race on "Mario Kart Wii"!!
I'm kind of going through my Wii U games in an OCD order . Seven is an important number in the Bible, so that seemed like a good slot to buy "Super Smash Brothers." I would want to play it seventh, too, but I'm still working on my fifth game (not counting a few times of bouncing back to an earlier game). "Mario Kart 8" was obvious for number eight.
As of Monday (4/3, 4 + 3 = 7; 93rd day; 14th week), I'm up to 24 amiibo. Mario must still have at least four of those spots (Smash, "Mario Party," silver and gold variations). That was crazy, because I went to all this effort to find a Diddy Kong without weird paint overspray on his eyes, or a gap below his eyes and the mouth section, or looking like his hat was slinking down too low (almost at the same level as his eyes). I DID find that figure in a box with a bent corner! That meant, I had to say to myself that a pretty box is not as important as all the "research" I did to find this unique figure. Plus, I think it helped me identify the box when I came back to the store the second time? Just in case, I rearranged it to be the last/first one on the peg, with three other versions in front of him. Meanwhile, I don't even know which games make use of Diddy Kong outside of SSB!! Now, I should be ready for a Zelda series amiibo to be #25 in the collection (2 + 5 = 7?), but stores have stopped carrying the 30th anniversary editions for some reason.
So, that was a little bit of Monday. I also managed to snag a Luigi theme Wii remote plus that Nintendo's online store doesn't even list at the moment. I wondered if it was "broken" in the box, because I could hear stuff moving around from shaking the box. After that, I found one store that still stocks foil packs of the "Disney Infinity 2.0" power discs. I barely started the Marvel collection, and these were the "Disney originals," where I had maybe five packs or less.
On Wednesday (day 95), it felt like I went REALLY "overboard." In the morning, I wanted to make it to Target before 1:00. I think that's because of "13:00" in military time? I did get to Target before 1 PM, but the time stamp on my receipt might say 1:04 or 1:05. Then again, the clocks are set an hour ahead right now. That purchase was for "Pokken Tournament." It should be my 16th game overall, but the 15th "unique" game (I have "Mario Kart 8" as a disc and the digital version came with the Wii U Deluxe set). I forget how many games I've bought from Target now. That feels like the third overall, but the second one from that Target location (they had the biggest stock of "Pokken" and are kind of local).
I came back home to eat, and then it was a trip all the way down to Plymouth Meeting and King of Prussia (sort of Philadelphia "suburbs"). Plymouth Meeting Target still had four of these silicone covers for the Wii U GamePad, which I'm not even sure I need, or if I'd like the texture. It's more a feeling of, what happens if they discontinue this item?!! King of Prussia Toys R Us had at least a few copies of Wii U's "Breath of the Wild" in stock. I remember what I had to do to snag one last copy of "Skyward Sword" before it left store shelves. Then, I believe I bought GameCube's "Twilight Princess" close to the release date, but nowadays, it's much rarer than the Wii disc (or at least more expensive).
Basically, I hope all of that effort was worthwhile! In an "online" or "Amazon Prime" world, I LOVE interacting with REAL cashiers, or needing to ask someone to unlock a game for you.
I'm not sure whether to talk about "Wind Waker HD" here or not. That's probably the last topic that was on my mind. My most recent play session was on Wednesday (after a total of 207 miles driven). I couldn't tell if I was just tired, but I almost felt like, GET ME OUT of this forest-themed dungeon! Now that I've played "Ocarina of Time," and "Twilight Princess" from the 3D Zelda series ("Skyward Sword" also, but I'm forgetting their forest dungeon), yes, they definitely keep repeating certain elements. When I was trying to figure out the range of opinions on "Twilight Princess," some of the YouTube reviewers would make a comment like, it's cool how an item that was also in "Wind Waker" gets an added ability. Now that I've played both games, I kind of disagree on that point. Without trying to give spoilers, there's a "glider" item that you get in "Wind Waker" even before you enter the forest temple. I can remember an item with a similar function in "Skyward Sword," and I've seen people using a glider in "Breath of the Wild." Well, in "WW HD," when you're not up in the air, your "glider" has a secondary feature to solve some puzzles or clear away piles of leaves.
I've also realized that, hey, you get the SAME type of weapon in the "WW HD" forest dungeon that you get in ... the "Twilight Princess" forest dungeon! Here's the "difference." In "TP," this item kind of adds the secondary feature of your "glider" from "WW HD." That's what people are saying is an evolution in the design of these items?!! To me, it just feels like, since there really isn't a "glider" in "TP," they merged those two items into the ranged weapon?
Other than that, I'm not sure what frustrates me about the "WW HD" forest dungeon. In some rooms, it seems like they remember that you already defeated enemies (usually, there's a chest, which is open, because you should only get that item once). In the rooms where enemies keep respawning and I retrace my steps to see if there's something I missed because I didn't get an item from the miniboss yet, I get tired of the combat! I'll be on this small ledge, and there's a pit/abyss below, or a floor where you'd have to get yourself back up to that higher floor again by doing tedious jumps and using the cannon flowers. Why are you attacking me at that point? Just to be in my way? There's also kind of a three-step way you can approach enemies. Since Link seems to be a "hoarder" in this game, or needs a trophy from every kill, he can "steal" something with one item, then put that tool away. Now, it's probably safer to attack from a distance, so use your ranged item. Now, this thing is disarmed, so switch again to your sword and go in close. I get the pattern, but I wish it was more "fun"??
These first two dungeons STILL haven't killed me, and I've been taking some hits. I know that I'm in "Normal Mode" for this playthrough, and you can switch to "Hero Mode," possibly at any time. I'm trying not to focus so much on just one dungeon, or letting that define the whole game, because IT WAS FUN sailing around to get to this place. I only wish I felt like the dungeon was fun after a few hours of trying to make sure I got every secret. I saved at the point where I have a key to the boss door, so it should be over soon. Then I can probably form a broader opinion.
Other than that, I just keep hearing IGN personalities talking about their experiences playing "Breath of the Wild," and not knowing what they mean. I don't know if I'll unwrap my copy yet, or when I might get to play it (still trying to work through the other 10 unplayed games). I might see what frustrates people about some of the other games in the series: repetitive items, always a fire dungeon, always a forest dungeon. The number of shrines has been "spoiled" for me (120?), but they make it sound like, once you get upset or bored, just go back to the overworld. I'm sure you can do that in "WW HD" as well, but I doubt it would advance the story until this dungeon is cleared of the final boss.
Hope everyone else is having a good time with gaming.
