I totally get it. I’m trusting myself too, sometimes even naive. I would never hide major issues when selling a car, and somehow I want to believe others do the same. Unfortunately, people are different. Listening to the seller is okay, and you should, but extra checks like a VIN report from FAXVIN and a mechanic’s assessment are really important to get a full picture of what the used car is really like.
