Still... some of the folks from the club came by & hauled the slicer out of the basement (I'm selling it to the club) and dug the old tiny freezer out of the garage to test (assuming it's working, I'm donating it). Then we all went out & cleaned the clubhouse & did some last minute list checking for this coming weekend.
Tomorrow, we'll meet out there early. I'll be in the kitchen, prepping lunch (burritos) for all the volunteers while they work on getting the ranges, registration, support vehicles, tents, etc. set up for the GSSF Bourbon Country Classic pistol competition this weekend.
Saturday, I'll be back out there early again, making up lunch boxes for all the volunteers. There are over 400 competitors registered for the shoot and we have 50-75 volunteers working it and they have to have lunches they can grab & go so we have them turn in lunch requests when they check in and we make up lunch boxes labeled with each person's name so all they ahve to do is stop by the kitchen when they have a lunch break, grab their box & go!
Cross your fingers that hte weather forecasters are wrong.... They're predicting torrential rains & even possible tornadoes throughout the weekend. I have no idea how the organizers would deal with that but it would be HORRIBLE to try to go on with the competition in those conditions. :-(
Then Sunday I've got to get serious about dividing out the shopping lists for our next big competition in 3 weeks. We'll be feeding 100'ish people lunch 7 days in a row, plus putting on a "Meet & Greet" even the first night, and a formal banquet one night during the week. I'm going wiht the "Divide & Conquer" approach. Someone gets to go to Costco, someone to GFS, someone to Kroger, someone to WalMart, and someone to SaveaLot and each person will have a list with what they're responsible for getting.
I sent the Master List to my cousin who's a retired chef/caterer yesterday so she can look it over & see if I'm missing anything. She'll be horrified at our menu choices but I tried to explain that we're dealing with multiple cultures, multiple health restrictions, and we're all volunteers working under a fairly tight budget to pull this off. (Not to mention that by request, "smoked bologna" and "smoked wild boar" feature heavily on a few of the days... LOL!)
I was supposed to go to Eastern KY for the weekend of the 4th but after discovering what I did about my brother, I cancelled out. Lied & said I couldn't find a dog sitter. I don't even want to look at him right now... :-(
Oh and my dog groomer closed suddenly two days ago. Effective immediately. All appointments cancelled. This after she was advertising for new clients less than 3 weeks ago. Something had to have happened... Took me hours on the phone that afternoon to find another groomer willing to take on my big hairy beast. And even then she's substantially more expensive than the previous one was. Oh well. I can't handle his fur on my own with my hands being as arthritic as they are... His 1st appt with the new groomer will be August 4 so we'll see how that plays out.
