As for when he was in hospice, I would try to let that go because a lot of that could have been the meds talking. Depending on when he spoke with the others, that could have also been the medicines. He was on very strong medication.
I hope that you can remember only the good times and take what he said to you at face value.
I am surprised your friends would even say anything.
