I am so very sorry about your sister. I hope you can see her but not at risk to your own health. I don't know if there are things that can be done for altitude sickness or not. But I hope it works out so you can go.
That is great that they will give you five months severance. Good luck with all of it and I hope you will find retirement to be fun!
