I went to the knee orthopedist Thursday afternoon and he gave me cortisone injections in both knees. Previously when I had cortisone shots I would just get soreness. This time I got full blown cortisone flares in both knees. Had difficulty standing and walking. My knees kept on locking up, were swollen and very painful. I had to use my cane to limp around the house until yesterday afternoon. I couldn't go to PT Friday. I was exhausted and napped for a couple of hours in the afternoon instead. My left knee is better but the right one still wants to lock up and be balky. I've been stuck at home since Thursday evening recovering. I have to walk down the stairs very gingerly to go out and put the garbage in the pail and fill the bird feeders. The other night when I had to go down the basement to add more water to the boiler I texted my sister and told her what had happened and requested she keep her phone next to her in case my knees gave out on the stairs and I needed her help getting up. It's just been awful. I don't want to go through this again. No more knee cortisone injections. Hopefully the HMO will approve the hyaluronic acid gel lubricant injections after my doctor resubmits the paperwork. The gel injections cause soreness but not days of being stuck homebound.
