Granite City council meetings have been anything but ordinary lately!

It appears as if recent equipment failures during the council meetings have resulted in a limited audience, and the timing if not questionable, is at the very least working out in the favor of those sitting in the hot seats. The temperatures have been turned up with accusations and implications sparing mostly nobody. What better time for such a limited audience, the meetings have been being ran on Spectrum-Charter community channel for months without any audio, so unless you're a champion of lip reading you've been out of luck. But this lip reading has only been possible on the evenings when the actual video portions were not a complete blackout screen.

This most recent meeting was no different on both points. More accusations and implications with one particular member of the council being in the extra hot seat with residents promising to unseat this member of the council by bringing a new law to the senate floor that will allow a member to be removed under certain circumstances. The meeting hit a fever pitch when a resident used their 3 minutes of talk time to point out this council member and then to handout a Christmas "Naughty List" to those in attendance. The floor fell silent around the 3 minute, 3 second mark of the timer as the mayor took back the floor. This was quite a spectacle (if you would have been able to watch it).

The city clerk had made this announcement earlier the day of the council meeting.

" For tonight’s meeting, through no fault of the City, channel 993 will not be available. Please visit our website, www.granitecity.Illinois.gov to view tonight 7:00 pm City Council Meeting."

Many others and I looked high and low all over the website for a link to be able to view this meeting, not a single one of us were able to find it. This was the second highly anticipated council meeting with a very large viewing audience expected to be watching from home, involving the same group of residents that never made the airwaves, or its path to viewership. The residents are still waiting for the first video (missed due to equipment failure) to be made available of that that missed meeting involving this same council member over their statements made when participating in a local podcast.

Sounds like lots of bags of coal going to city hall this year. Oh wait, Biden/Harris and the green earthers shut down coal mining. HO Ho HO!

I would only question one thing there Santa. No poop plant is lucrative. It’s why most communities are “dumping” them.

Joy does not intersect with Maple.
but intersects Myrtle, Davis, Aubrey, Wayne, Rodger, and then ends at Jill....

Now Maple...over in Lincoln Place, starts down on Chicago St. (yes there's a Chicago street in Granite City), and then makes its way up to intersect with Neidringhaus, then crosses St. Louis Avenue, before ending at its intersection with West 20th Street.

So -- your redress of grievances, while worthy of some consideration, perhaps, contains at least one grave factual error.....

Joy and Maple are in two different parts of Granite City..and never the twain shall meet.

Mrs. O. reminded me that the two don't intersect. Not sure why I didn't pick up on that myself.

Of course, there are other silly claims in there, so I didn't give it much more thought.

Yes, the city is probably buying booze now for that new Mill downtown. Of course, if they markup drinks like the bars I go to, they are making a fortune.

Yeah, there was some info about Lance's old buildings being bought and who's paying the insurance. Well, I hope to hell if they bought the buildings, someone is insuring them. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Lance's office. That place was so cut up on the interior with several offices and reception areas so it will take some interesting ideas to make it more than office space.

I do however appreciate these politically motivated posts this time of year. It's a little early. I guess you call that, "premature electioneering". LOL

Despite all the back-and-forth with local politics, at the end of the day Granite City is still Granite City and nothing of real significance is going to change. Maybe that is what the voters want.

You're certainly right this election Joe. With the transgender candidate and the realtor not following the rules, Parkinson is our continuing mayor.

The alderman in ward 2 now has no opponent via the same elimination process.

I think ward 1 has one opponent.

Ward 3 is unopposed as it has been the last several elections.

Ward 4 I think has the incumbent and one opponent.

Ward 5 has a challenger.

The clerk has no opposition.

The school board has no opposition.

The park board may have one outsider and the incumbents.

Not sure about the library although the lady who got booted from ward 2 was also booted from the library ballot. Have to read those rules people.

So, all in all, our next Granite City elections will probably have a very low turnout because unless you live in one of the challenged wards, there's not much there.

Only one I can remember here and that’s when the Benda woman lost to a last minute write in. Won’t happen at mayoral level.

This is why I’m crossing my fingers to be moved out of the city by next summer. The city just not the same as I grew up in .

I hear you there Gary. I'm too old now although we have thought of selling and retiring to Florida. My golf buddies are here but I know a few near our place in Florida as well. This home has been paid off for years and the kids get what's left to sell. LOL.

The city has changed. Loss of good jobs, an overwhelming amount of rental properties with some slumlords sprinkled around. I'm okay with Parkinson but until good paying jobs move back, and there's not much can be done at his level, the income levels will go down.

That being said, my folks are buried here as well as two siblings and the in-laws.

Let's hope things change. We still have dear friends here who can't move but hell, they can fly to Florida.

Time will tell and it stands still for no man.
