Soccer, tariffs do work if applied and enforced correctly.

The point is to make foreign countries pay outlandish penalties to ship products, such as cars, here which of course, they pass on to the consumer

However, if done right, manufacturers suddenly realize they won't sell their product with the penalty add on so, the goal is to have them move back to this country.

Back in the 70's when so much industry fled this country, they did so to escape high corporate taxes and break unions. They couldn't do the latter, so they just left and used slave labor in countries like Mexico.

A win-win would be for manufacturers to return to the U.S. and give them tax incentives to pay good union wages again. They save money on taxes, but the country makes up that loss of revenue with higher wages of citizens.

The tariffs have to be such that the American public simply can't afford or will refuse to buy foreign goods.

Of course, I'm way older than most others here and I can remember when made in America wasn't just a political slogan, it was a reality.

Trump seems incoherent. Using tariffs to pay for childcare? Now that is an original concept. It would not work but is sounds like a plan.
JD Vance will use grandparents or Aunts and Uncles.

Makes me wonder if these two have a clue on actual Childcare cost.

I agree, Opinionated, Tariffs can be very effective, as you said "if applied and enforced correctly".

Trump seems to think they are the solution to a multitude of issues. I don't think he has ever thought about the cost of childcare, which is a huge issue for regular working folks raising kids.

My simple point of sharing the video is to show and example of how this man is not fit to run this country.

Opinionated - I think that's wishful thinking, it might create higher paying jobs for some people in specific industries,but it won't help solve the problem for the majority of parents. Trump was asked what specific piece of legislation would he advance to help parents with the high cost of child care. He doesn't have an answer to that so he rambled for 2 minutes and fell back on his tariffs which he believes will bring in enough money to solve every problem imaginable.

JD thinks relying on grandparents and aunts and uncles is a viable solution.

First of all, I think it’s really sad that both parents must work to live comfortably. Second, a single parent generally is relying on family members because licensed childcare is financially unattainable.

Minus Bidenflation both parents in many cases would not have to work. Also, the pay scale is based on supply and demand, in most cases you get what you are worth. In some areas, they are paying fast food workers 17 dollars an hour to screw your order up 90% of the time.

What’s with the deflection accusation? Do you want more taxation, more child tax credit and allow costs to just continue onward and upward? How do you figure it benefits us commoners for government to play monopoly with our tax dollars? What idiots put us in a position that we must pay out billons to other countries for their economic needs, finance their military and all the other pseudo-humanitarian efforts? Russia, Russia, Russia in our politics? Why the heck was Biden threatening withholding a ton of money from Ukraine regarding PG Victor Shokin? Why don’t we focus on the family unit? I can just imagine the liability insurance Day Care Centers pay out. States have their own requirements as Vance was referencing; National credentials, licensure requirements and post-secondary education (2 year degrees). Probably to make $34/hour to tend to an infant under two years old. Heaven help you if you have three children.

That's because childcare issues belong to the parent that brought those children into the world. I know people struggle due to higher cost these days but let's face it. Some people have no concept of planning a family. They pop out babies like a pez dispenser and then wonder why they can't afford things.

If you are career-minded which most likely required full-time dedication, why add children? They are not side hobbies, they’re basically a full-time job.

Most probably this is all about putting the yokes on employers to provide perks such as on site day care centers or subsidies.
