Agree that this was a bad look for Biden and Harris, but let's not paint Trump as someone who really cares about fallen soldiers.

Call me cynical, but his appearance at this ceremony was a photo op. His treatment and comments about McCain are the most well known, but there are many disparaging remarks, well documented, that he's made over the years.

Trump was there for the photo opt. Everyone knows how he treated McCain. He has also called the military :suckers and losers, just last week he said that the Congressional Medal of Freedom was a bigger honor then the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Trump could care less about the military, but he enjoys the phot opt.

He spent time with each and every family member. Carried the flowers to each headstone and kneeled down to place them. It was a heartfelt act. The families knew it and every American knew it, only a few folks that are normally avoided would see it differently.

To be clear, he was invited by three of the families to be there. I understand Trump haters will see a photo op. Most politicians use photo ops.

However, Biden could have been there. He’s not campaigning. He’s on vacation. He’s afraid to face one of his most critical failures.

OPi is plenty smart and appears to know the issues as well as anyone. IMO he spends too much time making a conservative point only to then walk it back when leftists in here get after him. He aspires to be Mr. Congeniality and there is nothing wrong with that, It's just not for me. Most in here say what's on their mind and they don't give AF what anyone else thinks about it pro or con. Joe, as explained before, I open my mind to people who open theirs. Examples: Soccer and Millgirl always present themselves to me as legitimate posters. While we don't agree on many topics, I respect their opinions as being just as good as mine. It's called respectful debate and there's not enough of it. I doubt either of them would say I ever back down from an argument.

Now, having said that, "people" like this pillow boy don't deserve respect. They come here for one reason, to stir crap. I don't mind the head games until they make gutless comments about our military. It's doubtful he ever served and if he did, he probably bailed out on an emotional discharge by wetting himself and sucking his thumb.

I hope that explains, once again, the reasons I try to educate myself by listening to the views of others. As you point out, I've been here much longer than you and I have learned from many.

Soccer is a smart guy, just wrong on everything, Millgirl may be a nice sweet person, and she is a dug-in Democrat even if I doubt she knows why. Pillow, Soccer, and Millgirl all have the same agenda they want to be pushed but I think they reached that level of depravity in a different way. At first, I thought Biden and Harris not showing up was a bad look for them, but knowing that one of the mothers invited Trump, I don't think it would have been appropriate for B&H to go... it was obvious they weren't welcome. It would also have been a distraction from a somber ceremony.

I'm sure by now that everyone's heard of the controversy over photos and videos taken at Arlington. The Trump campaign had no regard for the rules and now Trump has posted a campaign ad featuring the video.

Veterans are not happy about this.

Soccer, very clearly this was both legal and proper. All one has to do is look at the rank and demeanor of the officer who conducted the ceremony to know that, while there may have been a few upset vets, the majority know it was done for the right reason.

USA today is hardly a reputable accounting of how vets feel. The most important part of this is, as you point out, he was invited by a gold star mother who still grieves her son killed at the hands of incompetency.

Every year a President lays a wreath on Memorial Day and they all use the mileage.

Opinionated - I'm not questioning whether Trump's presence was appropriate or legal, you are correct, he was invited by one of the mothers.

What was not appropriate and what angered veterans was that the Trump campaign, broke the rules and took video in Section 60 -- where recently buried U.S. service members are interred, and used it in a Trump campaign Tik Tok in which he criticizes Biden and Harris.

This quote from one of the veterans:

"Donald Trump has no right to use our most hallowed ground for his political aims," Fred Wellman, a 22-year Army combat veteran, said Wednesday. "For a lot of us, and I'm not the only one, people are aptly furious."

Federal law prohibits political activity, including any photography, at any military cemetery.

Wrong again Joey --- the U.S. Army rebuked the Trump campaign for breaking the rules even after an employee tried to enforce them and was pushed aside. The same thing would have happened if this involved a Democrat candidate.

Its' a federal law, she tried to enforce it, and she was pushed aside and was even labelled "mentally ill" by someone in the campaign.

Family members of the service members killed in the Biden-Harris withdrawal from Afghanistan just released a statement backing Trump.

This is in response to the FAKE NEWS NPR story blasting President Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery.

“We are deeply grateful to the president for taking the time to honor our children and for standing alongside us in our grief.”

These grieving families should NOT have had to do this. But NPR forced them to.

You are trying, unsuccessfully, to deflect from the issue of taking photos and video in Arlington, then using them in a political ad. No one has suggested that Trump should not have been invited and attended. If the families wanted a picture with Trump, it should have been done in an approved spot.

I saw a post from a mother who was upset that the section where her son was buried was being photographed and used in the ad.

The families that day who lost their sons have every right to blame and be mad at whoever they want, but that still doesn't warrant breaking federal law and using the pics for political purposes.

All of the previous, negative and disparaging remarks Trump has made about Veterans negates any doubts about how he really feels about those who served and those who died.

Soccer, there have been hundreds of videos and pictures shared of Arlington burials and graves including the Kennedy family, Audie Murphy, etc.

My guess is if this was as big a deal as is being hyped, the government would be after many people.

It's not a site to be desecrated but it's the burial home of thousands and I'm sure this isn't the first violation.

The Arlington National Cemetery rules that apply here are specific to using photos, videos for political purposes, here's an excerpt from the link below:

“Federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, to include photographers, content creators or any other persons attending for purposes or in direct support of a partisan political candidate’s campaign,” the cemetery said in a statement.

It would not apply to ceremonies, burials, etc... unless it was used for political purposes

Federal law has NO jurisdiction over National Military cemeteries.

Section 553.5, “Federal Jurisdiction,” is removed as 10 U.S.C. chapter 446 provides that the Army National Military Cemeteries shall be under the jurisdiction of Headquarters, Department of the Army.

No charges were pressed against the Trump morons who pushed the employee aside because she was doing her job.

MG, with me it’s about the disrespect shown to those Gold Star families by Biden and Harris. The withdrawal from Afghanistan by all accounts, even liberal media, was a cluster——. Those thirteen didn’t have to die. They were the victims of lousy intelligence and planning. Do yes, I don’t care about Trump or anyone else exposing that travesty. Let’s not forget the Biden never apologized to those families and that’s part of what drives them to invite Trump to the ceremony that some on this board thought could have waited until Memorial Day.

We will just have to disagree on this one. I lost a very good friend in Vietnam. Maybe I’m just more sensitive to a soldier dying especially when it could have been prevented.

No, the Army responded calling it an “incident”.

The United States Army follows the same Uniform Code of Military Justice as the other branches of our military.

Republicans rarely make promises, Democrats make promises all the time and then break them.
