My buddy said the mayor did a great job presenting many facts about the sale of the treatment plant, where the city is financially as a result, etc.
According to my very cheap buddy, he indicated that the city made a good move and even though water bills may go up, they wouldn't go up as much as our taxes may have if the city hung on to it.
Apparently, the city previously borrowed money to pay a loan. Ever try that in your personal finances? Ever use one credit card to pay the balance of another card. Guess what? You never catch up.
According to his quoting the mayor, the city may not have been able to pay the light bill with the ever-growing pension debt. He went on to say that fire houses may close, police force may be reduced and public works only doing emergency repairs.
So, he gave the mayor and his economic development person props for executing a sound financial move
More importantly, my buddy's wife was tickled to death that Granite City is getting a store called Five and Under. Is that something like our old Ben Franklin five and dime stores?
Anyone else go last night?
And much more important than any of this, I shot my first under par round at the golf course today. Now that's newsworthy.Promises Made, Promises Kept! Republicans stood, the liberal left wept.

What is in store for the future is more grasping for mediocrity and never quite achieving it."Murica"

I'm a little more optimistic than I was a few years ago Joe. I think Parkinson is on the right track.
Now, I will qualify with the following: If the Steel Mill completely folds, we are in trouble. If Gateway turns into Mental Health Central, we're doomed. If Joe is elected for another term, I fear for small businesses.
I'm too old now to pick up stakes but by the grace of the Good Lord, we're in great financial shape and the worst thing that happens is my two kids get a smaller inheritance from the sale of our paid off house. They should be okay with the current stock portfolio but as we all know, that can change in a heartbeat.
So good luck mayor. I hope you get 4 more. I hope I get at least that many to see if I was right about you.Promises Made, Promises Kept! Republicans stood, the liberal left wept.
