My buddy said the mayor did a great job presenting many facts about the sale of the treatment plant, where the city is financially as a result, etc.
According to my very cheap buddy, he indicated that the city made a good move and even though water bills may go up, they wouldn't go up as much as our taxes may have if the city hung on to it.
Apparently, the city previously borrowed money to pay a loan. Ever try that in your personal finances? Ever use one credit card to pay the balance of another card. Guess what? You never catch up.
According to his quoting the mayor, the city may not have been able to pay the light bill with the ever-growing pension debt. He went on to say that fire houses may close, police force may be reduced and public works only doing emergency repairs.
So, he gave the mayor and his economic development person props for executing a sound financial move
More importantly, my buddy's wife was tickled to death that Granite City is getting a store called Five and Under. Is that something like our old Ben Franklin five and dime stores?
Anyone else go last night?
And much more important than any of this, I shot my first under par round at the golf course today. Now that's newsworthy.
Promises Made, Promises Kept!
Republicans stood, the liberal left wept.
