I think the shooter was using a semi auto pistol, which of course isnt an assault rifle. The anti gun mob likes calling anything other than a Daisy BB gun an assault rifle, and actual automatic weapons are already illegal in every state. The implication is that AR stands for assault rifle which of course it does not.
I cant imagine that a no guns allowed sign was posted bob because the shooter would have most assuredly seen the sign and realized he could not take his gun into the store at that point.
The shooter was an anti Trump, anti American and he was in the medias eyes, sadly not white as his facebook postings clearly showed until they were scrubbed.
Once the shooters race and background clearly did not support the state run medias hopes and dreams, at that point the firearm became the focus and not the shooter. They wanted white supremist bad, guns bad, but had to settle for simply guns bad.
