OP My recollection was there was a legitimate reason...While I was there I questioned just that, for the same reason; Perhaps the equipmen crt operators share a ride there... but I encouraged to leave equipment where folks were around, lest vandals see an opportunity.

OP you seem to have the right instincts; have you considered coming out of retirement for a special assignment? You could chase anything; why not public employees? The reason is...I see others (with far less talent) do so with less success, making far more money.
Perhaps Wally could nominate you as...Emporer of Nameoki Township; something respectable like that.
