You can read in the quotes posted by one of her dearest friends, that yes, she indeed died from this virus. The picture is dated for sure, but possibly one of her favorites.
All the employees have been talking about it, it's pretty much common knowledge at several of the Wally world locations. I'm also sure they have all been instructed to not discuss the cause of her death as well.
